Crimewatchnewspaper reports that the suspect, Samson, has been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened on 10th November, 2023, at Oba Erediawa Street, Okpagba, off Eyean, Auchi Road, Benin, Edo State.
He was charged before Justice Isoken Ikponmwonba of a Benin High Court on a count charge of defilement by having canal knowledge of the victim and was remanded at Oko Custodian Centre, Benin without an option of bail.
The Prosecutor, I. E. Ekibade, had earlier told the Court that the defendant forcefully and unlawfully had canal knowledge of the victim and the alleged offence was contrary to the provisions of Section 4(1) and punishable under Section 5 of the Edo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law 2021.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The Presiding Judge, Justice Ikponmwonba, subsequently adjourned the matter till 10th April, 2024, for hearing while the defendant will remain in custody pending the conclusion of his trial.
