LAGOS-COMMISSIONER of Police CP Olarewaju Ishola weekend, gave kudo to his officers and men for their unwavering commitment in the fighting against crimes and criminality in the state. The police boss noted that since assumption of office almost 4 months ago, there had not be any report of bank robbery as was associated with Lagos metropolis during yuletide. This is even as he paraded four teenagers for snuffing life off an unsuspecting Uber dtiver adding that plans an interacting session with operators of such sector with a view to educating them on salient security tips.
He noted that during the yuletide, report filtered in that there was going to security breach in the state adding, he and his management team had to do what he called crime mapping of volatile areas in the state, which of course, paid off. He assured that this Zero tolerance for crime in the state would be sustained so long as he remains the number one policeman in the state. He said, “Today we are parading a number of suspects ranging from armed robbery, car- hijacking, kidnappers, abduction, gender based violence, cyberbully, illegal possession of firearms and vandalism. We are showing today assemblage of arms and ammunition, recovered from criminally minded persons in our quest to keep Lagos safe. We want the general public to know that it is not all bed of roses for us. Within the period under review, I lost 2 policemen. On the October 18, 2024, I received a distress call at Agege that a truck ran over an Okada rider , policemen ran to the scene, and in the ensuing chaotic situation, one of my policemen was pummeled to death in the course of sheer official duty. One Saka Ganiu was stabled to death and investigation is at advanced stage and those arrested will be prosecuted. On the December 25, 2024, while on stop and search duty, a police officer in company of his team were attacked by hoodlums. While those who were lucky to escape with injuries were taken to the hospital, we lost one of them. Such experiences were enough to discourage people but we will not let it deter us . We shall continue to do what we know how to do best in our quest to keep Lagos safe.
“I will like to say to the glory of God that throughout 2024 when I came into the picture as CP Lagos, there was no reported cases of bank robbery in the state because all the measures put n place yielded good fruits. Two days ago, those young men we blindfolded as you can see (we did that because investigation is still on and we won’t mention their names too) they hired an Uber driver, apprehended and stabbed him to death. Some public spirited persons alerted our operatives and two of them ran away while we apprehended two. With proper investigation, we were able to arrest the other two. Four of them overpowered the driver and killed him. I will like to advise operators of these app, Taxify, Bolt Lag-ride, Uber to always insist that the rider sits at the front with them and they should not carry more than one rider at a time. We are planning to invite all operators in this activities to a forum where we can give them security tips so that they will not be falling victims as you will agree with me, this is just one a kind reported or detected. “
