“Notable among the newly created specialized Sections are Anti-Kidnapping, Anti-Cultism, Financial Crimes, Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Desk, Anti-Money Laundering/Terrorism Financing Section, Political Desk, Economic Sabotage Section, Disaster Management Desk, Domestic Violence Section, among others.

“I am proud to let our CP Command know that these nascent Sections have since commenced operation with notable investigating achievements recorded.

“In the last four months alone, we have received quite a number of petitions referred and transferred cases many of referred which have been charged to court while others are at different stages of discreet investigation”.

On the challenges faced by the department, Akinbisehin said that the Interrogation Room needed an upgrade to enable them meet up with the new pronouncement of the Supreme Court on recording of admissible confessional statements of suspects, which must be taken in the presence of the suspects lawyer or video recorded.

“The Department is experiencing acute shortage of manpower both Investigators as well as Lawyers. We need more Lawyers in view of the new rule of prosecution even at the Magistrate Courts that permits only lawyers to prosecute.

“Moreso, the Judiciary are crying for orderlies to guarantee their security as well as more prosecutors to provide requisite services in the administration of Justice to the State.
