Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, appears haunted by a familiar anxiety in Nigerian politics: the fear of being used and ultimately discarded. This fear is not imagined. It is rooted in history both his own political conduct and the fate of those who once walked the same path before him.

Wike knows this script all too well. He has watched allies mobilised, expended, and abandoned once their usefulness waned. What he seems reluctant to accept is that the same political logic he once deployed against others is now turning on him. Power, especially borrowed power has no loyalty.

Crime Watch Newspaper reports that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a strong warning to Senator Ajibola Basiru, urging him not to interfere in Rivers State politics after publicly supporting Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking to supporters in Oyigbo Local Government Area, Wike described Rivers State as a political “no-go area” for outsiders and cautioned that anyone attempting to meddle would face serious consequences.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted. You have to be very careful with the statements you make,” Wike said.

He further warned that interference in Rivers politics would not be tolerated. “When Mr President comes back, when I see the Minister of Blue Economy, I will tell them to tell him – if carry your hand to Rivers State, if your hand burns, don’t say na me burn am,” Wike added.

 

Wike emphasized his readiness to confront anyone who challenges the political space in the state. “I can challenge anybody. This state is a no-go area whether you like it or not. Go and ask those who have tried it before. You open your mouth to talk about Rivers State, anything you see, take it.”

The FCT minister also criticized unnamed political figures for creating “unnecessary noise” regarding Rivers politics and advised them to focus on their own jurisdictions.

 

Senator Basiru had previously expressed support for Governor Fubara amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, prompting Wike’s stern response.
