LAGOS POLICE COMMISSIONER TO REDUCE CHECKPOINTS ON BADAGRY EXPRESSWAY

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, has announced plans to reduce the number of checkpoints along the Badagry Expressway. This was revealed during his visit to the Area K Command of the Nigeria Police Force at Oko-Afo, Badagry, Lagos, on Saturday, 17th August 2024.

Mr. Fayoade emphasized that the current number of checkpoints is negatively impacting the region's image. "I will look into the police checkpoints on the expressway and reduce them,” he stated.

The Commissioner also noted that it isn't only the security agencies contributing to the problem, but also other individuals and groups, including agberos and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). "We cannot continue to condemn only the security agencies because all of us are involved," he said.

During the visit, traditional rulers from Badagry, including the Onimeke of Imeke Land, Oba Olatunji Ogabi, expressed their displeasure with some police officers allegedly not wearing uniforms while on duty. The traditional ruler described this conduct as unacceptable and urged the Commissioner to ensure proper sensitization of the officers.

In a related development, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Olusegun Onilude, appealed to the Commissioner to significantly reduce the number of police checkpoints on the expressway. Mr. Onilude remarked that "the unnecessary delay and waste of time caused by these checkpoints had made tourists abandon the coastal town."
