Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, embarked on a working visit to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba. The visit underscored his commitment to enhancing internal security in the state.
Upon arrival, CP Jimoh was warmly received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID, DCP Soledayo Ralph Akinbisehin, alongside his team of senior officers and personnel.
DCP Akinbisehin expressed profound gratitude to CP Jimoh for entrusting him with the leadership of the SCID, describing it as a high honor and critical responsibility.
During his welcome address, DCP Akinbisehin highlighted the SCID’s pivotal role in handling high-profile and complex investigations, including petitions, capital offenses, and cases referred from divisions and area commands across the state. He noted that the department has a total strength of 389 officers and men, supported by IT students and NYSC members.
DCP Akinbisehin emphasized the need for improved cybercrime and cybersecurity capabilities within the department, given the shift of criminal activities into the digital realm. To address this, the department has prioritized continuous in-house training, ensuring section heads are regularly updated on modern investigative and policing techniques.
The SCID has undergone significant structural and operational reorganization under DCP Akinbisehin’s leadership. New specialized sections have been created to tackle emerging threats and evolving crime trends, including: Anti-Kidnapping, Anti-Cultism, Financial Crimes, Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Desk, Anti-Money Laundering/Terrorism Financing, and Domestic Violence sections.
DCP Akinbisehin proudly noted that these newly established sections are fully operational, with notable investigative breakthroughs recorded in the last four months. The department has diligently handled a significant number of petitions and transferred cases, with many already charged to court while others remain under discreet investigation.
The SCID has recorded remarkable achievements under DCP Akinbisehin’s leadership, including the seizure of over 70 vehicles linked to crimes such as fraud, armed robbery, and car theft.
CP Jimoh expressed satisfaction with the strides made by the SCID, commending the department for its resilience, innovation, and effectiveness in combating serious crimes. He praised the seizure of over 70 vehicles, describing it as a testament to the department’s capacity and readiness to deliver justice and maintain law and order.
CP Jimoh assured the department of his continued support, promising to escalate some of the issues raised to the relevant authorities and stakeholders for urgent intervention. The visit demonstrates CP Jimoh’s commitment to modernizing policing in Lagos State and enhancing the SCID’s capabilities to tackle complex crimes.
