Lagos, September 3, 2025 – The Police Command in Lagos State, has announced the deaths of three suspected cultists during inter-cult clash on Sunday in Lekki Phase 1 and arrest of 23 others in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this in a statement.
Hundeyin said that the Command has commenced discreet investigation into the unfortunate incident.
He said that the clash occurred at a security duty post in an uninhabited open land space around Wole Olateju Street, involving members of rival cult groups at about 5.00 a.m.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh personally mobilized to the scene with joint police teams to swiftly attend to the situation.
He noted that the recently established Anti Cultism Team and other Tactical teams under the Elemoro Area Command, were immediately deployed to Lekki phase 1.
Hundeyin said that several arrests of suspects linked to the crime were made in connection with the incident.
“Furthermore, prompt and extensive raids of criminal hideout and black spots in the entire Lekki areas were carried out leading to the arrests of suspects linked to the clash.
“Exhibits used in the commission of the crime have been recovered from the suspects and below:”One Ak 47 rifle, one magazine, 14 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one military camouflage cap, two cutlasses, Raps of Indian hemp, one charm and three Indian hemp crushers,” he said.
The image maker said that the security situation in the Lekki-Ajah axis was under control, stressing that normalcy has been fully restored after the incident.
He advised the public to go about their lawful activities without fear or apprehension.Hundeyin further informed the public that the crime in Lekki was not alarming.
“The ongoing investigation aimed at arresting other members of the cult group is being conducted with utmost diligence, and the outcome will be made public in due course.
“All suspects found in possession of dangerous weapons and linked to this heinous crime will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. ‘Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact our emergency lines for prompt response,” he further said.
Meanwhile, the Command has strengthened and beefed up security across Lekki, Ajah and its surrounding areas, including Ogombo and Elemoro.
Hundeyin said that the security beef-up was to implement the new crime prevention, detection, and control strategies to ensure safety of lives and properties and safety of private and public investments in the general area.
According to him, as part of these measures, the Command has redeployed some Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the affected area.
He said that this would bring new impetus towards curtailing crime and criminalities in the area and also improve on the operational efficiency and a proactive response to distress situations.
“To further reinforce the security, the Eko Strike Force, a specialized intervention unit, has been deployed to Lekki and Ajah to address all forms of crime and criminality in the Lekki area and its environs.
“The Lagos State Police Command calls on residents to cooperate fully with the intervention team to ensure the success of the operations and maintain safety and security for all,” he said.
